Algebra I Requirements
Two levels of mathematics instruction are offered in eighth grade: Algebra I and grade level.
Placement in the Algebra I program is determined by:
A minimum score on the Iowa Algebra Diagnostic Test* of 90 (score ≥ 90),
92.5% or higher on grade 7 Trimester 1 and 2 average**
Parents and guardians are encouraged to discuss placement with the SMS administration, teachers, and guidance.
*IOWA is an algebra-readiness assessment that will be timed and given at the end of grade 7.
** Students must be given the most advanced version of work throughout these trimesters
